CNA students at Job Corps

Academics

In addition to career training, Turner Job Corps also provides academic training, including basic reading and math. Courses in independent living, employability skills, and social skills are offered in order to help students transition into the workplace. We also have several academic programs to help our students achieve their full potential.

GED/High School Diploma

One of our top goals at Turner Job Corps is to ensure that every qualified student obtains his or her GED/high school diploma prior to leaving the center. Students who don't already have a high school diploma upon their arrival at Turner can enroll in our GED program. Coursework in the GED program is self-paced and covers the following subjects: math, language arts, reading, science, social studies, and writing.

Students can also participate in the New Summit High School diploma program which offers two types of diplomas: a college track and a technical track diploma. To qualify for this program, students must have at least 18 credits on their most recent high school transcript and meet testing requirements.

Driver's Education

Driver's Education is available to all students needing a driver's license. This program includes 30 hours of classroom instruction and six hours of training behind the wheel.

Advanced Career Training

The Advanced Career Training (ACT) program allows our students to continue their education at Albany Technical College or Darton College. Students in the ACT program may also transfer to Albany State University.

Students are admitted to the ACT program based on their academic performance and receive all the benefits of Job Corps including free housing, food, medical, recreation, supervision, counseling, and other support.

For more information about the ACT program, please contact Diana Ray at (229) 883-8500 Ext. 151.
